This installment of Gossip Girl is all about bad girls going for what they want, and the soundtrack is deliciously dirty to match. Gossip Girl episode 8 opens to Blair's scandalous self-pleasure scene, set to the tune of "Crash & Burn Girl" by Swedish singer-songwriter Robyn, an edgy dance tune with a serious beat. Jenny then explores a new wild side, switching clothes with Agnes to "Partie Traumatic" by The Black Kids. I LOVE this song! The Black Kids have been huge in the UK lately, and "Partie Traumatic is a great backdrop to the beginning of Little J's venture into debauchery.
Meanwhile, Chuck finds Blair lighting candles in Serena's room to Princess One Point Five's intense, piano-driven "With Light There ls Hope." The heavy instrumentals and soft vocals highlight this rare look at a human side of the ice queen, and the melancholy is even more appropriate when she's left alone in bed once again.
Back at the bar, Max takes pictures of Agnes and Jenny at the bar to "Walking In The Streets" by Mad Staring Eyes and we're back to a let's-get-crazy soundtrack. This song was built for hijinks and photo montages! Later, when the clothes come off and the debauch level goes way up, Jenny and Agnes dance to "How Soon Is Now" by Tatu. The original was by the Smiths, but I don't think I'm the only one who hears that tune and instantly thinks "Charmed."
By the time things wind up, neither of our bad girls have gotten what they wanted, but both are unrepentant. Chuck and Blair agree to save a real relationship for some fuzzy future date while Jenny and Nate share a steamy sidewalk kiss, all to "Dark On Fire" by Turin Brakes. Music from Gossip Girl is always spot-on, and this was delectable business as usual!
