An eclectic mix of music can be heard filling in the drama that makes up the lives of the crowd in Manhattan. To start, Young Folks by Peter Bjorn and John plays as Serena, Dan and Jenny make their way back into the city. As soon as Gossip Girl spreads the word about Serena’s return the provocative, If It’s Lovin that You Want by Rihanna comes on and plays throughout Nate and Blair’s short lived tumble in the bed.

Diamond Hipster Boy by Washington Social Club jams while Dan, Jenny and Rufus share breakfast and gets things going for the rest of the episode. When Dan and his dad are out posting flyers for the band concert 99 Percent by Mooney Suzuki rocks giving us a good idea of all the complications Dan is dealing with.

Bounce with Me by Kreesha Turner is more Jenny’s style and plays while she is giving Serena an extra invitation to Blair’s party. When Serena and Blair take some time to talk, the dramatic Back to Black by Amy Winehouse leaves you feeling morose about the whole thing. Fortunately, Dan’s good feelings about Serena come through in the song Space for Rent by Who Made Who while he is talking to Jenny.

A short clip of Send You Back by Matthew Dear plays as Chuck and Serena ruffle each other’s feathers, but it helps set up the music for the rest of the night. When Dan makes it to The Palace, Hard to Live in the City by Alberta Hammond Jr. is crooning about just how hard it all is. Later Go by Hanson leads into Dan introducing Serena to his father right before the concert.

Back at Blair’s party The Way I Are by Timbaland starts things off for the night, Don’t Matter by Akon plays as Chuck tries to lure Jenny onto the rooftop, and finally Knock Knock by Lyrics Born bangs out the beat while Dan and Serena search the party for Jenny.
